1. Who we are
Uncram is an AI study planner for students. It is currently run by its founders, Shawn Fajardo and Benjamin Akilov, in New York, New York, and has not yet been incorporated. “Uncram,” “we,” “us” and “our” mean them, and, once it’s formed, the company that runs Uncram, which will take over responsibility under this policy. We will update this section when that happens. You can reach us at hello@getuncram.com. Our Terms of Service also apply when you use Uncram.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information: your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form by our login provider. We never see your password, and we never ask for your school password.
- Birth year at sign-up: we ask for it once to make sure you’re 13 or older. We don’t save it.
- Photos you choose to add: a profile photo or a custom background, if you add one. They’re saved in your planner.
- Your planner: the classes, meeting times, assignments, due dates, exams, grades and scores, study sessions, to-dos, notes, work and activity schedules, school, major, year, goals and preferences you add or that Uncram creates for you.
- Syllabi, schedules and photos you upload: files and pictures you choose to add so Uncram can read them. We keep what Uncram pulls out of them (like due dates, grading and a summary) and may keep the text of a syllabus so you can view it or ask about it later. We don’t keep the original file or photo.
- Messages to Scout: what you type to Scout, our AI assistant, and Scout’s replies. See AI features.
- School calendar links: if you connect Brightspace, Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle or Schoology, the private calendar link you give us, and the assignments and events from that calendar.
- Friends and sharing (optional): your @username, profile photo and the times you’re busy, if you turn on sharing, plus the friends you add and the study invites you send or answer.
- Feedback and support: what you send us, your email address, and, if you choose, the last error the app hit.
Information collected automatically
- Study activity: when you open Uncram, finish tasks and log study time, so Uncram can learn your pace and when you study best. This stays in your planner.
- Usage counts: how many AI requests, lookups and similar actions your account makes each day, to enforce fair-use limits.
- Technical information: like any website or app, our hosting and database providers receive your IP address, browser or device type and the time of each request, and keep this in security and error logs.
Information we don’t collect: we don’t collect your precise location, contacts, browsing history, Social Security number, or advertising identifiers. We don’t buy information about you from data brokers.
3. AI features
Uncram uses AI to read syllabi and schedules, answer questions about your classes, power Scout and suggest plans. To do this, we send the relevant content (for example, a syllabus, a photo you chose, or your message plus the parts of your schedule it’s about) from our server to our AI provider, Anthropic. Specifically:
- We use Anthropic’s commercial API. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic doesn’t use what we send to train its AI models. Anthropic generally deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, but may keep content longer if its safety systems flag it for violating Anthropic’s usage policies, or if the law requires it.
- We don’t use your syllabi, planner or messages to train AI models, ours or anyone else’s. If we ever want to, we will ask you first and it will be optional.
- No person at Uncram reads your messages to Scout as a routine matter. We may look at specific content only if you send it to us (for example in feedback), to fix a problem you report, to investigate abuse or security issues, or if the law requires it.
- AI can make mistakes. Always check important dates and grades against your official course materials.
Please don’t put highly sensitive information (like health details, passwords or financial account numbers) into Scout or your planner. Uncram doesn’t need it.
4. How we use information
- To provide Uncram: build and update your plan, read your syllabi, sync your school calendar and your devices, run Scout, show class averages, and send reminders and account emails (like confirmation and password reset).
- To keep Uncram safe and working: prevent fraud, spam and abuse, enforce our limits and Terms, fix bugs and secure our systems.
- To improve Uncram: understand which features are used (using our own aggregate counts, not third-party trackers) and act on feedback.
- To communicate with you: reply to messages and send important notices about your account, these policies or the service. If we ever send marketing emails, you can unsubscribe at any time.
- To process payments and manage subscriptions, if you buy a paid plan (see Payments).
- To comply with the law and protect rights, safety and property.
We don’t use your information for advertising, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use it to make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run Uncram, under contracts that limit them to doing so, and in the other limited cases below.
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, database, server functions | Your account and planner data; technical information |
| Anthropic (Claude) | AI features | The content needed to answer a specific AI request |
| Netlify | Hosts the website | Technical information when you load the site |
| Resend | Sends account emails | Your email address and the email content |
| Google Fonts, jsDelivr, OpenFreeMap | Fonts, map software and map images | Technical information (like your IP address) when your browser loads them |
| Cloudflare Turnstile (if turned on) | Stops bots at sign-up and log-in | Technical information about your browser |
| Apple, Google, Stripe or a similar payment processor (once paid plans exist) | Payments and subscriptions | What’s needed to process your payment |
We may also share information:
- With your direction: for example, when you share your free times with friends or send a study invite.
- For legal reasons: to comply with law, a court order or a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, Uncram or others.
- In a business transfer: if Uncram is part of a merger, acquisition, financing or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that deal. The new owner must honor this policy for information collected under it, or give you notice and a choice.
- In de-identified or aggregate form: information that can’t reasonably be used to identify you, like “students spend an average of 3 hours on this assignment.”
6. What other users can see
- Sharing is off by default. If you turn it on, people who add you by your exact @username can see your name, @username, profile photo and when you’re busy or free. They can’t see what you’re doing, your classes or your grades.
- Study invites: people you invite see the session details and your name and @username.
- Class averages: the time and difficulty you report for assignments is combined with other students’ reports. Averages appear only once at least 3 students have reported, and never show who anyone is.
- You can turn sharing off or remove friends at any time.
7. Cookies, local storage and tracking
Uncram uses your browser’s local storage (and, in the apps, the app’s own storage) to keep you logged in, save a copy of your planner so it opens fast and works offline, and remember settings like your last tab. These are needed for Uncram to work.
We don’t use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, session-recording tools or third-party analytics, and we don’t track you across other websites or apps. Because we don’t sell or share personal information for advertising, there is nothing to opt out of. We still treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as a valid opt-out request.
8. The iPhone app and Chrome extension
iPhone app: the app uses your camera or photo library only when you choose to take or pick a picture of a syllabus or schedule. Reminders are scheduled on your phone and need your permission, which you can turn off in Settings at any time.
Chrome extension:
- It keeps your Uncram sign-in and a copy of your planner in Chrome’s storage on your computer, so it can show your Today and To-Do lists.
- It only runs on getuncram.com and on the school learning-system websites listed in its Chrome Web Store listing.
- On getuncram.com, it shares your sign-in between the website and the extension.
- On your school’s learning system (Brightspace, Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle or Schoology), it checks the page, on your own computer, for one thing: a private calendar link, which appears after you open the calendar’s subscribe or export option. Nothing leaves your computer unless you click Send to Uncram, and then only that link is sent. It doesn’t collect your grades, messages, course content or anything else on the page, and it doesn’t track your browsing.
- Every 30 minutes, it refreshes your planner to update the number on its icon.
Uncram’s use of information received from Chrome and Google services follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
9. Payments
Uncram is free today. If we offer paid plans, payments will be handled by Apple (for purchases in the iPhone app), Google (for purchases in an Android app) or a payment processor like Stripe (on the web). We won’t receive or store your full card number. We receive limited information from them, like your plan, its status, the last four digits and expiration date of your card, and your billing country or ZIP code. That information is used to provide your subscription, prevent fraud, handle refunds and meet tax and accounting rules. Their own privacy policies apply to the information you give them.
10. Schools and student records
When you use Uncram on your own, you decide what to add to it. Uncram isn’t run by or affiliated with your school or with Brightspace, Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle or Schoology, and adding your school calendar doesn’t give us access to your school account.
If a school or university provides Uncram to its students under a written agreement with us, we will handle student information only as that agreement and laws like the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) allow. That includes working under the school’s direct control over its education records and using them only for the purposes the school authorizes. The agreement will control where it differs from this policy.
11. How long we keep information
- Your account and planner: as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we immediately delete from our database your account, planner, friends card, class-average reports, study invites you sent, calendar links and usage counts. Uncram also clears its copy on the device you delete from. Copies on your other devices are removed the next time those devices go online. If they don’t, you can remove them by logging out or uninstalling.
- What other users already have: information you shared with other students before deleting, like your name in a friend’s list or a study session you invited them to, may stay in their planners until they remove it.
- Backups: copies may remain in backups for up to 30 days before they’re overwritten.
- Feedback: kept to help us improve Uncram. When you delete your account, your name and email are removed from it.
- Emails: our email provider keeps records of emails it sent (like the address and subject) for a limited time.
- Security and server logs: kept by our hosting and database providers for a limited time, then deleted automatically.
- AI requests: we don’t keep a separate copy of what we send to Anthropic or what it sends back, beyond what’s saved in your planner. Our server logs record only technical details of a request, like whether it worked, not its content. Anthropic’s retention is described in AI features.
- Payment records (once paid plans exist): kept as long as tax, accounting and other laws require, usually up to 7 years.
- We may keep information longer if the law requires it or to resolve disputes, prevent abuse or enforce our agreements.
12. Security
We protect your information with safeguards that include:
- encrypted connections (HTTPS) everywhere
- database rules that let each account read and change only its own data
- encryption of school calendar links on our server
- daily limits to prevent abuse
- keeping our AI and server keys off the website and apps
No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. If we learn of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires. Please use a strong, unique password and tell us right away at hello@getuncram.com if you think your account has been compromised.
13. Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- See and change the information in your planner at any time in Uncram, and get a copy of your information by emailing us.
- Correct your name, email and planner in the app.
- Delete anything in your planner, or your whole account, in Profile & settings → Delete my account. You can also email us from the address on your account.
- Disconnect your school calendar, turn off friend sharing, and turn off reminders at any time.
- Remove the extension or app, which clears what it stored on your device.
To make a request, email hello@getuncram.com. We will verify your request by confirming it came from the email address on your account, and we will respond within 45 days, or sooner if the law requires. You can also use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof that they’re authorized. We won’t treat you differently, or charge you differently, for using your privacy rights.
14. U.S. state privacy rights (including California)
Residents of California and other states with privacy laws (such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and others) may have the right to:
- know what personal information we collect, use and disclose
- access, correct and delete it, and get a portable copy
- opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and certain profiling
- limit the use of sensitive personal information
- appeal our decision on a request
We give these rights to all users, whether or not a state law requires it. To appeal a decision, reply to our response with “Appeal” in the subject line. If we deny your appeal, you can contact your state attorney general.
California notice at collection. In the past 12 months, we collected these categories of personal information, for the purposes in How we use information, from you, your devices and the services you connect:
- Identifiers: name, email address, @username, account ID and IP address.
- Customer records: account details.
- Commercial information: subscription and purchase history, once paid plans exist.
- Internet activity: your activity within Uncram and technical logs.
- Visual information: profile photos and pictures of syllabi you upload.
- Education information: classes, assignments and grades you add. This isn’t from your school’s records.
- Inferences: your study pace and the times of day you study best.
- Sensitive personal information: your account log-in (email and password). We use it only to provide Uncram and keep it secure, as the law allows.
We disclosed these categories to the service providers listed in Who we share it with, for business purposes. We don’t sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have no actual knowledge of selling or sharing information of anyone under 16. Retention periods are in How long we keep information. Under California’s “Shine the Light” law, we don’t share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing.
15. Users outside the United States
Uncram is run from the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States and wherever our providers operate. If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another region with data protection laws, we process your information:
- to provide the service you asked for (performing our contract with you)
- for our legitimate interests in keeping Uncram secure and improving it
- to comply with the law
- with your consent where required, for example camera access and notifications, which you can withdraw at any time
You may also have the right to object to or restrict processing and to complain to your local data protection authority. When information is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as our providers’ standard contractual clauses.
16. Children and teens
Uncram is made for high school and college students. It isn’t for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. We ask for a birth year at sign-up, and someone under 13 can’t create an account. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email hello@getuncram.com. Users from 13 to 17 should have a parent’s or guardian’s permission to use Uncram, and we don’t sell or share their information for advertising.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Uncram changes. We will update the date at the top, and if a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If we ever want to use information we already have in a materially different way than this policy describes, we will ask for your consent first.
